Frequently Asked Questions about Corolla

Ask the Locals…

Q. How far is it to the grocery store?

A. Once you have reached the paved road it’s five miles to the closest grocery store which is a Food Lion. For a higher quality market, continue three miles further to the Harris Teeter.

Q. Are dogs allowed on the beach?

A. Our beach is very dog-friendly!! While there is a leash law in Currituck County, it is not enforced on the beach as long as your dog is under your control and not bothering other beach-goers.

Q. What should I know about driving on the beach?

A. The first and most important is that you must have a four wheel drive (4×4) vehicle. All Wheel Drive is not recommended as they generally do not have enough ground clearance to handle the ruts. Second, and almost as important – you must reduce the air pressure in your tires to below 20psi. This will keep you from getting stuck, keep your engine and transmission from overheating, and prevent wash-boarding the beach which is miserable for everyone else.

Q. Is a permit required to drive on the beach?

A. At this time, a permit is not required.
